Walker County Booking Process

A local arrest usually moves through transport, jail intake, identity collection, property handling, booking record creation, possible booking photo and fingerprints, medical or mental-health screening, and then the magistrate or bond process. Walker County Jail Mail Money

Jail mail and commissary money do not use the same address. Letters and cards go to the Longview mail address listed by the county. Money orders go to a Huntsville PO Box, must be made out to the inmate, and must include the inmate number or SO number. The county's inmate-money page states that no money is accepted at the facility.

Walker County Warrants and Holds

Warrant information has its own local rule. Walker County's Area Contact Numbers page says the Communications Center does not release warrant information and citizens should call the court they believe issued the warrant. That means a jail inmate record can confirm that someone has been booked after a warrant arrest, but it is not the best source for clearing or verifying an unserved warrant. The issuing court controls many bench warrant, capias, citation, and failure-to-appear questions.

For a person already in Walker County Jail, ask the jail whether the public record shows a hold, detainer, no-bond status, or bond amount. For the court side, use the District Clerk for felony criminal records, the County Clerk for Class A and B misdemeanor records, and Huntsville Municipal Court for city matters. A hold can keep a person in custody even when one charge appears to have a bond, so custody status should be checked before sending money, scheduling a visit, or assuming release will happen the same day.

Walker County Non-Jail Custody

Sentenced state prisoners in Walker County are searched through TDCJ, not the county roster. The TDCJ inmate information hub describes online, email, and telephone information routes. The TDCJ email page says requesters can provide full name and seven-digit TDCJ number, or if that number is unknown, date of birth or approximate age and county of conviction.
